The expedition of My Camera... From nature to abstracts.. The pictures that speak hundred words in the silence. They are the Talking Pictures..."A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know." said Diane Arbus.I also believe so. This nature freaked girl grew up with the sole idea of coloring the nature in her canvas so many times... But painting them wasn't that easy either .. and so I decided to freeze them by my camera.

Men in Black with the drums
I had a great time last sunday, Dec 14th, at CKP, feating on the daring dance of rajasthan and lovely sufiana melody of rajasthani songs, the beautiful bihu and not the least the drum beats of the "namma" karnataka folk, that made each and everyone dance with the drums. It continued for not less than 25 mins and was a eye catching scene to see the crowd dancing on the drum beats. May be the drumers were that efficient in moving the crowd with them or may be the beats were so mesmerising that it made the people to leave the place and jump on the stage. whatever that was, I loved the ambience and inside my hearts i felt one amongst the crowd and was dancing from inside, hands clapping in a rhythm and feets giving a beat ... I loved the whole thing in itself resembled a real mela, in true sense.

A note on Dollu Kunitha-
Dollu Kunitha is a major form of art, occupies the pride of place among folk dances of Southern India. Popular as “drum dance” of Karnataka, accompanied by singing, this piece of art provides both spectacular variety and complexity of skills in the process of demonstration. Woven around the presiding deity of Beereshwara or Beeralingeswara, chiefly worshipped by the Kuruba Gowdas of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, also called Halumathasthas, it presents both entertainment and spiritual edification.Emancipated with distinct religious overtones this dance has a origin to the traditional past and is in fac traditionally performed at the temples of Beereshwara. Whenever puja is offered to invoke the deity of Beereshwara, the rituals are complemented with the beating of Dollu.Traditionally the themes were religious and were known as the 'Halumatha Purana' or simply the 'Kuruba Purana'. It forms the center of attraction at all religious festivals of Karnataka specially Northern Karnataka. Often it is used to welcome the harvest season. However, it has been now used to commemorate a wedding, the birth of a child or even a burial or a funeral. The districts of Shimoga and Chitradurga are particularly noted for their excellence in the performance of this folk form. A dancing troupe of Dollu Kunitha consists of about a dozen artistes(commonly sturdy men in black dress) as dancing partners. Against the background we have tala, tappadi, trumpets, gong and flute, raised to a high-pitched tenor. These instruments are purposely used to reinforce the rich vibrations of Dollu. Being distinctive in its use of the Dollu(a specialized drum that are struck with fingers and produces a loud sound like a thunder when struck),this folk form is a stylized dance accompanying the sonorous beating of the drums where men in black form a semi-circle and involve in extremely swift and sinuous movements.

Me and my shadow
I asked myself... "Whats that black thing follwing me everytime?"
Suddenly, a reply came- "Its you yourself, who always follows you."
I again asked- "But why do you follow me?"
It laughed aloud and said- "As because I am you."
I looked back, but couldn't see anyone. I walked .. Still he followed me. I asked- "Don't you have any better work?"
It replied- "This is the best work."
I asked- "Who are you?"
It said-" I am inside you that reflects outside as your shadow... I will always be with you, irrespective of what you are, who you are, evrytime, everywhere, every place, every moment, every minute, every second till you take your last breath."

Firespitter
This thin lanky guy, from the land of colors, Rajasthan could spit out fire...He is Mr. Ratan, a troop member of the folk group whom I met in the mela. I wasn't beleiving till i saw him... He was so dare and infact within no time, after he took the kerosene into mouth, he rinsed his month with it and with the fire, he blew it out ..... bruuuuuummmmmmmmm............. he did many shots... below legs he blew out the fire... sidewise, lying down... finally he put it inside his mouth and the finale came to an end. That was CKP's Folk Mela, straight from Rajasthan with great songs like kesariya balma, damadum mast kalandar, nimboda... i loved that evening and felt proud to be an Indian.

Kya Kaha ke gaya tha Woh Mahaan Atma...
There was a man who was a stunt beleiver of the fact which we have forgotten, may be we have just ignored in our hectic lives..
Bura Mat Dekho,
Bura Mat Sunu,
Bura Mat Bolo...
And this creature, listens to it ...
Why can't we mankind follow it? Mahatama left an imprint of his principles on the day to day life and thus making us feel the fact that we are human beings and not just animals. If animals can be social, why can't we be?
A tribute to love and peace for mankind and fight against terror..
To be an Indian and a peacemaker is what I have realised. And I feel, whoever reads this blog post will feel the same.

Puppet show
I always wondered what these dolls meant by... they aren't just dolls, but they reveal thousand words and hundreds of emotions. The puppet dance at Folk Mela, CKP wasn't very appealing but it was funny in itself, where the puppets danced on popular hindi songs like "Mein nikla gaadi leke" and "Mein teri dushman dushman tu mera".... Well they amassed a great crowd of kids and so taking a perfect shot at night time wasn't that feasible and poor narrator had to come every time to move the kids to one side so that others sitting under the open sky , on grounds could also enjoy the puppet dance....
Three cheers to puppet show of Rajasthan.

Dancing Dolls from Assam
I would love to be a travel writer, I dont know what makes me think that but i realised i am good in few things, like keen observations, capturing candids and just anything and everything and simply need a channel to put forth all my ideas and just go ahead... I went yesterday(third time, since the 10 days Folk Mela @ Chitrakala Parishad on KumaraKrupa Road, B'lore) and guess what, it wasn't a shopalcoholic who went, rather a true amateur phtographer... and i kept clicking my camera for long time... enjoying the dance and fest...
Bihu was one of the shows, straight from the land of rhinos.. and the vibrant red so magnificient on these dancing dolls... half bend with both hands folded at back and the guys beating the drums loud... I just loved the aura of the rich heritage from india... next post continues CKP @ Fotographia.

The Wright Brothers dream come true
This shot is a honor to the Wright Brothers for their invention "the airplane" and their ventures in the gliding world, into the clouds -flying in air like birds had been a man's dream and it would have been still a dream if they hadn't dared. My first journey in a plane was on June 6th,2007 when i came from my home to Bangalore for the IISc interview. I remember how thrilled I was(like a 5 years kid) and so excited. That's one of my good memories which I would cherish till my late breath.

Mr and Mrs. Blues
Today is Saturday, end of the week, and also end of the month and I feel like I'm in blues.
But with the lapse of the day, I did some great work, went to Mahua Art Gallery and got new inspirations and Feel like partying. Again, I spotted these blue flowers dancing in the afternoon breeze and evening wind. And so I introduce to you all now "the happy go lucky couple in the air" - Mr & Mrs. Blues. I heard Mr. Blue singing,(one of my all time favorite lines), for his highness( Mrs. Blues), very loud and clear into the air -
"If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever oh, so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong
*******
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You wanna know by now how much i love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love..."
And listening to it, I realised my love will also never change.
Wishing all readers a great weekend and a bheega bheega december(chilly-willy n coldy-goldy).

Spokes of Life
I was feeling lonesome the other day and was aloof from everything, into my world and i realised one truth. A colour isn't just a colour. Its conveys, many emotions, hundreds of meanings, thousands of thoughts and millions of message. The way one likes the color or a person's favorite color can depict his attitude towards life and his persona. I had heard it and slowly started feeling it recently. This is shot taken when the color pencils were found after so many long days gap and didnt know what i should do , just when it stuck to me to catch some freaky abstract shots and so did hit and trial. The world is round and one has many shades of life. This picture symolizes mankind and its varied facets of sufferings and happiness.
Name it as "Colors of life" alias "Spokes of LIFE wheel", , I assumed - "Life is beautiful" as I interpreted......
"Pink"- The color of romance
"Orange"- The happiest, gay color, stands for scarifice and cheerfulness
"Green"- The prime color of the world, the origin of life, prosperity, reproductivity, and that from which its loveliness arises.
"Yellow"- The color of creator/performer
"White"- The color of innocence and purity, peace and wholesomeness.
"Black"- The color of authority and power.
"Red"- The color of leader/promoter and of course caution/danger.
"Blue"- The color of analyzer/organizer
"Brown"- The color of earth and is abundant in nature in many forms.
"Purple"- The color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication.
"Indigo"- The color of agility and achievements and victory.

Squirrel Kamasutra
The other day I was rushing to check my mailbox, ahem... what I saw was an ecologist's keen eyesight and of course a naturalist's way of observation. I spotted the grey squirrels into the act of sex and I observed for 25 min and more. The only thing I regreted was my camera missed it so much...I could have videoed it and taken much better shots than what I have posted. They were at a height of 20 meters on The Parkia biglandulosa tree and i kept trying all my efforts to catch a good shot of the conjugation with disturbing the actors of the great act of life.
Thanks to my Nokia N72... :) as the shots were clicked with it ....
What happened during the act and after is not strange.... the male squirrel was happily busy releasing its sperms when it was attacked by another giant big fat male component. It jumped and ran with its hindlmbs , holding the female clasped well its forelimbs and tried to hide in the hibiscus tree but fortune wasn't in his favor today and suddenly he was disturbed and abused by a couple of hoaders... A gang of 5 males(hulligans) chased the male and its partner to get the supremacy and mate with the fertile female... female ran in the front, followed by its partner and behind were the chasing gang of 5 rowdy male squirrels and screamings echoed over the branches as the fight intensified for few minutes(2 to 3 min). Down standing below the Parkia tree, and looking at the tall Parkia, I was wondering the game of life and the dominancy for sex in the animal world. Soon, after a while,I lost the track as they all dispersed in different directions.

Owling Nights @ Fotographia
(Photo taken in Pondicherry University campus)
Its never fowl as thats a dear owl.
The Darkness fell close,
As the Sun from the east
Moved to the west,
Deep into the Arabian chest.
The twilight streched on the slope.
On the hill side,
On the forests,
Into the ravines..
On the river lines.
On the Pavements
And over the pathway...
And then it was all dark
As a black hole' mark...
The night set in...
*********
Walking along the lonesome path, I spotted it
Sitting in the dark balcony, I noticed it
Lying on my bed, on the summer nights, I heard it
Standing in the terrace yesterday, I traced it....
While lighting the cigar,
I spotted it rushing in the air.
I got a freeze,
As it sat against the wintery breeze..
*********
In the twilight,
it took a flight.
There came the night,
With its chest bright...
From my window, I kept peeping,
In the search if it's perching
On the tree,
And so free...
On the electric pole,
With a conspicous role.
In the dark,
Inside the park.
On the roof,
It was so aloof...
(of the manly world)
Again and again,
Now and then,
Here and there,
I saw it everywhere....
Ran behind-
As I had in mind,
to get a flick
And there I click
Once more
click flick click flick
And the final click...
**********
A bird of the witchland..
If so, belongs to the dreamland...
Man said it evil,
Bt I feel it isn't devil
As keenly it observes,
So mostly it deserves.
There's its prey,
On its tray.
Its never fowl
Thats a dear owl.

Why such a puzzled up name...
Well the shot was like that... in the dark nights, as what was caught looked witchy and one of those kindas that can be justified to some act of wizardry and then lots of watching of Harry Potter stuffs these days... and so its like a complexed brain's dilemma..
The title stands for magic/ mirage/ illusdion and so it befits the shot taken on this diwali night.

Happy Birding @ Morning Walks
A great poet said it-
"Sweet bird, that shunn'st the noise of folly,
Most musical, most melancholy!"
I am so excited with the flock of these parrots. Thanks to my morning walk days when i took the shot. The birds in group of 5 to 8-9 used to do every odd things( on tree branches to the eletirc wire, perching to prinning, fighting to taking dives in the sky) and watching them for couple of minutes(not less than 15 minutes, i am sure) used to be my motivation for morning walk in Sept- October' 08.
Now that winter has set in, I am sure i can spot many more new birds but I am sad as I sleep for late hours and dont get up due to cold and dewy mornings....
I regret the days and miss my walks.

The Curves of Life
A pleasant evening...
What to say about the sky.. so vast and so huge, I feel lost sometimes in the spectrum it gives out.... Different moods revealed... with different colors ...
One day it's pure-clear as water,
Other day its has the scatter...
No matter ...
However it is always better....!!
One day it's crimson red,
Other day it has white thread...
At times its brown .....
With a yellow crown.
To yellow and then blue and then violet....
It's all set..!!
Sometimes it is blue,
That is its original hue.
But never I could see green shades,
As that most often fades...
Today its the orange,
And so I feel it completes the whole VIBGYOR' range...!!

Now when the winter has set in,its so cold at night (around 14deg C) and morning the sun rises lately, I feel like taking a sunbath on a place where its lonely, less crowded, and where the weather is pleasant and its all fun to be there under the sky and the sun.

Let suffering go off and happiness pervaid.. let people have a healthy wealthy future... may that be Goddess Durga's blessing bestowed on all of us and let the evil be destroyed sooner ....
Courtesy: This photo was taken last year(2007), during puja, in Cuttack, Orissa. Cuttack is a old city, on the banks of River Mahanadi and is famous for its trade and silver filigre works... The backside of the idol and its crown is fully made of silver filigred work and is the biggest attraction during puja days. Different mandaps have a kinda of competition with regards to the crown and they hier special workers for that even. Even families from generations, situated in old cuttack are dedicated to this work and they infact earn the whole year's livelihood during this auspicious time of Durga Puja.

Lonely Chipper
That night me and chai were walking down from the bus stop to home when i realised that i have a great oppurtunity to try my hand in the dark. Standing below the deodar tree, on the roadside, when the vegetable market was completely closed, not a single shop was open and infact when the wrist watch was heading to 12 AM, i experimented with this flock of chippers and after many, "click-click-click-click-click-click" sounds, what was I got is just a Lonely Chipper... well one amongst the gang who posed nicely for me, hoping out of its nest and walking on the branch to get me a lovely reward for myself...Thanks lovely Bird...
I have seen this flock of Common/House sparrows(Passer domesticus) from past two years by now, on the same tree and day in day out chripping and hoping, sometimes on the roads, other times on the branches, sometimes collecting small twitters and many times small tiny twigs, other times rags and crumpled paper pieces, and most of the times screaming hidden inside the branches of the Deodar, whilst sometimes on the near by on-going construction..
I wonder how these sparrows are habituated to urdan life and have become a part of the "URBAN ECOSYSTEM".Seems like they love the township and who knows they might just have a better adaptibility. A question for an ecologist,I suppose....

Back again..." the scarmblers."
It wasnt a great shot though but the focus of the camera was on that bloody "scarmbler". Thats what i call them (bees), when u see them visiting the flowers and just keep on scrambling the pollen adorned anthers with their hairy legs (like that making of a scrambled egg) on the main disc of the many of the open flowers like roses, lotuses and zinias which provide them a "landing platform".
And so was i lucky to get this one and only shot of the bee scarambling the yellow rose in my courtyard.

Wine N Dine @ Fotographia
"Wine and dine" wouldn't have been the best title perhaps to this post but helpless... i love wine and dining... both.. infact i am crazy with them.. and so is the shot snapped in Prominade, Pondicherry.
Missing a gulp of wine is like really missing a great sort of relishing drink down your throat. The smell of the ripen grapes fermented to get the bloody red colored wine. infact the color is itself designated as "WINE" color. I always wondered why many people take the fact that drinking is a offence. I would rather tell wine is a classy drink and should be taken in limits and with the proper ethnic manner.. Its a drink for special occassions and a drink for all occassions.. Had i been getting the chance to ingest a few gulps everyday..esp at night.. with "classy" english dinner.. i miss that dream of mine.. waiting when thats going to be in real...

Blues N Greens
Something is extraordinarily fascinating about the trees and when i was a small child, my craziness for them began..I suppose. Gradually, it became a mania or one can say a passion and i realised when i did my B.Sc. in BOTANY. The passion still configured into more precised and infact a narrower stream of applied biology and i finally landed up with a msters degree in Ecology and Environmental Science. Though I am jobless and dont know what this subject has future for me, but one thing am sure is I am satisfied that i have learnt.... Learnt to live, learnt to beleive, learnt to bear up with and all starts with plants...!!
Someone once told me that you are obssessed with greens ...I love buying kurtas which are greens esp depicting leaf colors and trees.. Infact my paintings are dominated by trees..well shaped as if real and alive (not boasting about myself, thats a skewed deal though).... wwowuuraay.... i am then... crazy with trees, plants, flowers, fruits... saplings.. plantlets...as if they are my babies...
No doubt that i am obssessed... and the nostalgia continues...

The Curled Beauty
"The Curled Beauty" @ Fotogrphia- Well I am fascinated towards this beauty not just because its my favorite flowers. Of course not crazy as with orchids and roses. But lilies have their own charm and essence. Had you once gifted me a bouquet of lilies.. Aah their smell how can i forget, said my soul...
Lilies are one of the most beautiful flowers and the smell is just mesmerizing. All those days when they were in my room, not a single morning went by, when i didnt notice them.I used to get up from bed, jump to the corner and get the nostalgic smell of the sparkling glorious lilies, see the droplets of water sprinkled on the curled petals and feel the newly opened up bud of the last night into a new, fresh flower in my room.
I miss these dangling beauties, now and then as i can't buy them these days.

One Fine Evening
It was a fine afternoon when I went to the terrace of the RRI and was gazing the sky changing its shades from chrome yellow to orangish red, from yellowish to red and to black slowly and slowly when the evening fell and soon got tranformed into a dark night.
The chrome yellow of the sky held my breath and i realised the colors of the spectrum are so much and so many in numbers that a slightest mix of shades by my brushes will give rise to a new color on my canvas. I never tried painting sky shades in my articrafts(both water n oil colors. Thats so b'coz i always tried painting one thing and at the end of the painting i got something else.) :)

"Its a lazy weekday, a sleepy afternoon, and for god sake someone give me a kick up for life to live again...just a cup of coffee."
Well after a week of the previous post, am back again with an appropriate photo, esp for all Bangaloreans.. In a proper time set(when its a continous drizzle from past 4 hours as if the sky is spraying the water to all the creatures on earth),
And when its raining like hell at times in the city and at times, a small shower with the earthy feel, the musty smell, the peace revealed...
The downpour at times are furious and thats what is a rainy day all after.Sitting in my room's balcony, i saw the people running, bikes getting parked on roadside and people sheltering under the shops, in sheds.. But to astronishment, the kids loved it, esp little johny.
And this photo was taken an afternoon when it started drizzling and all within few minutes changed to a heavy downpour.
And what the conventional Little Johny used to say:
Rain Rain go away,
Come again another day...
Little Johny wants to play.
Rain rain go away.
But our "LITTLE JOHNY" doesnt say so..and rather he says.. "Rain Rain stay here so that I love to play here...!!"

"Rain Rain stay here so that I love to play here...!!"

butterfly, flutterby..!!
(The Blue Mormon)
After long time, seems I am getting active, back from my sleep mode. Nevertheless, a lovely photo of my all time fascination.. The butterflies.!!
Butterfly, butterfly
Fly in the sky
Ah ! Butterfly, flutterby
Flies so high
Butterfly, butterfly
Just flutterby..
Vinne wants to catch you
So runs behind you
From bush to home
And home to garden.
Butterfly, poor butterfly
Falls off from the sky
Butterfly, butterfly
Motionlessly lies
Oh dear Butterfly,
gracefully dies.

The Forbidden Apple
Adam and Eve ate this fruit and got crused, thats what Bible says. But whats true is apple is great fruit and infact the royal fruit. The cost of one fruit which is above 100 bugs in market per kilo is only apple and then how to keep a doc away ??
And so goes the all time saying..."An apple a day keeps the doctor away."Happy apple eating times to all readers.

The dew-bead Gem of earth and sky begotten. -George Eliot
"Every dew-drop and rain-drop had a whole heaven within it."
Thats what I feel whenever i see these tiny water droplets on any surface.
(This post is in continuation to the previous posts "Like the Crystal Drops & "Like The Dew Drops".)
"Dew-drops are the gems of morning, But the tears of mournful eve!" Thats what Samuel Taylor Coleridge described dew drops to be.
I dont find much difference in dew drops and water drops.. Saying scientifically they are of same chemical composition, same water molecules, composed of 2 Hydrogen atoms and 1 oxgyen atom in a well bonded covalent bond. But the description of a poet is always differnet and thats all imaginary and confusing at times to readers like me.
Bailey once complimented them - "Dewdrops, Nature's tears, which she Sheds in her own breast for the fair which die. The sun insists on gladness; but at night, When he is gone, poor Nature loves to weep."
The dew, 'Tis of the tears which stars weep, sweet with joy. ... imaginations have no boundaries. Infact some poet once stated dews to be stars shedding tears with joy. I always wonder though not scientifically possible but yea who can rein a poet's mind..!!
Even more to quote are by Tennyson and Shakespeare.
Lord Alferd Tennyson once quoted " And every dew-drop paints a bow."
Nevertheless the great Shakespeare,in A Midsummer Night's Dream (Fairy at II, i)said " I must go seek some dewdrops here, And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear."

I dont know something is fascinating about the water droplets or dew drops or any drop of water thats crystal clear but reflects all the colors of the rainbow from inside it. And thats what forced me to click th camera at this beautified entancing and entralling shot of the nature. An as its always said
"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder."

One thing that is pinging my mind and infact it suits to this post of mine is-
"All jams are better and sweeter, and infact tastier also, but never a traffic jam..!!"
Thats one common feature to all metros.. and so Life in a Metro is never better without a traffic jam.
The photo was taken when Rahul Gandhi had arrived to Bangalore and was on his way to Yehalanka.
It was utterly frustrating when the institute vechile came to the hostel after waiting for 40 mins and just a distance of 2 kms or so was covered in a time span of 35 mins.
